Sony BDP-S580 Review - One of the Best 3D Blu-Ray Players for 2011

!±8± Sony BDP-S580 Review - One of the Best 3D Blu-Ray Players for 2011

Five new Blu-ray players are being released by Sony in 2011; including a first ever portable player. But the standout product in the line-up seems to be the BDP-S580 model. This mid-range player is equipped with all the latest extras you want in a player and at a very reasonable price (0). Coming in line just below the BDP-S780 model (0), the BDP-S580 has Full HD 3D playback, built-in wireless for streaming online content, Gracenote Metadata Service and many more appealing features.

Simple in its design, the BDP-S580 has made a conscious effort to conserve energy and the environment. Located on the front is the disc loading tray, display screen, basic control buttons and a USB Port. All other connections are found at the rear of the player, including another USB Port.

VIDEO QUALITY: The BDP-S580 is capable of supporting 1080p/60 and 1080p/24 video output resolutions via a HDMI connection. There are other video connections in the form of Component and Composite Outputs. However unlike past players, the component video outputs can only display SD resolution. This is due to restrictions regarding copy-protection. (All manufacturers are subject to this restriction.) Since most of us will use a HDMI connection anyway, this should not pose any major problems. Video quality is excellent with the BDP-S580. It has options for preset picture modes and three different noise reduction types. As well as IP noise reduction that significantly improves the quality of Steaming video content. All these features should satisfy all high-definition Home theater enthusiast.

AUDIO QUALITY: Audio connections for the BDP-S580 include the HDMI Output, the Coaxial Digital and 2-ch Analog Outputs. Like the Video outputs, the HDMI will provide you with the best sound. Over the HDMI connection the BDP-S580 can transmit high-resolution audio formats (Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio) to be decoded by an Audio/Video receiver. Or you can let the player decode the audio formats internally. Either way you choose, you will get great 7.1-channel lossless surround sound. Unfortunately, the BDP-S580 is lacking multi-channel analog outputs, so this will not suit those with older A/V receivers without a HDMI input.

One of the great features of the BDP-S580 player is its ability to support many different types of media. Including the playback of AVCHD, WMV, AAC, MP3, GIF, MKV, WMA, JPEG, PNG, 3D BD, BD, DVD, CD and even SACD. Internet streaming of movies, videos, music and photos, as well as social networking is also available. Once connected to the internet, either by the Ethernet Port or through a built-in wireless connection, you have access to a wide range of services such as Netflix, Hulu Plus, Pandora, YouTube, Picasa, and to Sony's Qriocity VOD service, which is a limited Web browser.

Other great features that will get consumers attention is the Gracenote™ Metadata Service with Cross Search and iPhone/iPad and Andriod phone remote. With Gracenotes, you can access details regarding the movies you are watching and search with certain online apps such as YouTube and Qriocity. The free iPhone/iPad app turns your device into a remote for the player and even supports a full Qwerty keyboard to take commands. The BDP-S580 can also receive content from DLNA servers, such as a PC. And it has a feature called Party Streaming; when paired with Sony HomeShare network speakers it will stream music to any room in your house.

THE PROS: The BDP-S580 from Sony is a 3D Blu-ray Disc™ player with built-in Wi-Fi®. You get vivid clarity of Full HD 1080p on playback of Blu-ray Disc, plus you can instantly stream TV shows, movies, music, sports and more from over 30 internet sources, such as Qriocity™, Netflix®, YouTube™, HuluPlus™, Pandora® and many more. You can add a compatible HomeShare® network speakers which will allow you to take advantage of Party Streaming™ mode to synchronize all your speakers to play the same song in every room. A free app is available to download that will transform your mobile device into an easy-to-use remote control. Also has USB playback support and is DLNA Certified so you can access video and music from your computer and display it on your HDTV.

THE CONS: The BDP-S580 does not have any internal memory storage. This is a little surprising since last year equivalent model, BDP-S570, had 1 GB of storage. Therefore, a USB Memory device (at least 1GB) needs to be connected to download BD-Live content. Fortunately, the BDP-S580 comes with two USB Ports. To playback 3D content you will need to have a 3D HDTV and 3D Glasses. Only has one HDMI Port. Some of its competitors are equipped with two HDMI Port for greater flexibility when connecting to a 3D HDTV.

THE FINAL WORD: The BDP-S580, like last years very successful BDP-S570, seems to be the highlight in Sony's 2011 blu-ray lineup. This mid-range player is fill with a lot of great features and has a price list of under 0.00. This 3D Blu-ray Players has Bravia Internet Video, DLNA capability, built-in Wi-Fi, USB playback, plus the added features of iPhone®/iPad® and Android™ phone Remote Control, Quick Start/Quick Load, Gracenote™ Metadata Service and I/P Noise Reduction. Don't be surprise if the BDP-S580 ends up as one of the best reviewed players by both experts and consumers. - Price you should look for when purchasing - Under 0.00

Aliens Behind the Couch Or How to Set Up Your Surround Sound System

!±8± Aliens Behind the Couch Or How to Set Up Your Surround Sound System

Few things enhance home movie viewing like a new home theater surround sound system.  Watching sci-fi and horror movies becomes much more of an experience when you can hear creatures sound like they are sneaking up from behind you or a laser blast zips from one side of the room to the other!

But how to do you set up your system to achieve these great effects?  It all comes down to speaker placement.  Most home theater systems will have five speakers and a sub woofer and many will have seven speakers and a subwoofer.  These are a called 5.1 and 7.1 systems respectively.  Fortunately, a little bit of information on setup goes a long way.

With most systems there will be three speakers at the front near the television or screen.  The center channel speaker is situated directly above or below and centered on the screen.  The front of the speaker should be flush with the edge of the screen.  Be sure the speaker is on top of or very close to the screen otherwise the sound can appear detached from the action.

Next are the left and right front speakers. Typically, these will be placed at about 45 degrees from the listeners ears and flush with the front of the screen as well.  They should be roughly the same distance off the ground as your listeners ears when seated and watching a movie.  Make sure each speaker is the same distance from the center of the screen.

With a 5.1 system you have two speakers remaining - the surround speakers.   These should be placed to each side of the listener or a bit behind them and few inches higher than ear level.  Aim the speakers directly at each other.

If you have 7.1 system you will have back speakers to install as well.  These should be placed directly behind the listeners at the same height as the surround speakers.

The final speaker for any system is the subwoofer.  It can be placed almost anywhere in the room since the human ear can't generally localize the sound frequencies it produces.  Basically, this means people won't be able to tell where the sound is coming from and will simply be bathed in the bass sounds.  Locating it somewhere near the front of the room should be sufficient.

Of course, there are many more subtleties to setting up a surround system but these concepts will allow you to set you a decent sounding system without getting hyper technical.  Is that an alien I hear behind your couch?  Enjoy!

Onkyo TX-SR508 Receiver Review

!±8± Onkyo TX-SR508 Receiver Review

The Onkyo TX-SR508 Receiver is a component of this corporation's foray into the 3DTV marketplace, and it's proven to be a suitable start. At 0, this unit features many of the incorporated capabilities and all of the power you might routinely expect from an Onkyo device, and happily the addition of 3DTV capability failed to send the selling price out of most people's reach, nor did it make it necessary to drop other functions which have currently become the norm. Weirdly enough, Onkyo really produces receivers for about a similar price which even come with less capabilities and a lot less power, thus the TX-SR508 is a great purchase, even by Onkyo standards.

This receiver features four HDMI 1.4 connections which are engineered for moving the 3D signal between a Blu-ray player and a properly equipped television. As expected, there's more to the gadget than 3D compatibility. If, for example, you wish to play Star Wars on your Ps3 utilizing the theater speakers, and don't really require the 3D ability, this component features an HDMI pass-through setting when the receiver stays in standby mode and generally operates as a large, complicated connector.

Onkyo's reasonably priced 3D receiver shows up out of the box with True HD decoding functionality and is additionally Sirius Radio ready. Onkyo's universal port is able to connect to your HD radio dock which you will need to purchase separately. Audyssey's sound optimization technology is even included, and it will be equipped to both calibrate and manage your sound quality so that you won't be required to. The time these features save you during setup might easily be enjoyed while gaming, and game enthusiasts will be delighted to see that this receiver provides four gaming modes that are configured to display alternative skill sets for Rock, Sports, Action or Role Playing games.

This receiver supports 7.1 channels which have 80 watts in every channel, which can be robust enough for a average home theater assembly. If you are looking for nine channels or up to 100 watts in every channel, Onkyo sells that receiver too, but not within the 0 price range.

Speaking of that price range, however, Pioneer's 2010 AV receivers offer some benefits regarding features including included iPod accommodation. Still, the competitiveness in the AV receiver product market appears more excessive than ever, with products in the 0 to 0 cost range filled with features that may have only been available in devices selling for 0 or more just a few years ago.

If you are particularly shopping for a 3DTV compatible home theater receiver, the Onkyo TX-SR508 is a very sensible choice for about 0.

4 Simple Techniques for Positive Thinking

!±8± 4 Simple Techniques for Positive Thinking

How to improve your life forever

Have you always wanted something ? Have you always felt that something was missing but you didn't know what ? Have you aimed for goals and fallen short. Like many of us you have probably fallen into a depressive slump and given up any hope of improving your life. The subject of self improvement is a vast one, and there are many things to learn. Yet, it is those first early steps that give the most back and provide the most improvement to our lives. Therefore, it is important to start out with a technique that gives you the best grounding to work from and will be fairly easy to master. If someone offered you such a system, would you follow it through or abandon it half way ?

The power of positive thinking is something that is widely known, although often forgotten about. Apparently depressive people see the world in a much more realistic way when considering the present. An optimist does not have a realistic view. Where the depressive looes is the point at which they take their depressive view of 'today' and expand it out to the future. A depressive creates an uncompelling view of the future - one in which they make reasonable demands and expect a large amount of disappointment. Like a self fulfilling prophecy they are usually right.

The optimist, using techniques for positive thinking, sees the potential in everything. He creates a compelling future that drives him forward and provides motivation. He gives himself clear, inspiring goals and desires that fuel his actions. He is stretched by the challenges of what the depressive would call ' unrealistic goals'. This challenge forces growth, a key factor in true happiness, further empowering the optimist on towards his goals. When he does get beaten, he realises that he is merely being told 'try again but be more inventive'. Fueled by his imagination, the optimist creates his own future.

As we can see the power of positive thinking is a valuable tool, one which can be used to change lives and make dreams reality. Yet, as with many things, there are surprisingly few basic, down to earth practical sources of information on how to master positive thinking. I am sure you do not want to be without the advantages it can bring and no doubt you have encountered, vague, imprecise guidelines to positive thinking that you have quickly abandoned. For those who feel that they can stick to four basic principles for at least a year they will be astounded at the changes that such simple techniques can bring. I now present to you the four basic principles of positive thinking:

1) You are not your personality.

Your personality is not you. You were probably different as a child than you are today. Sure, there will be a kernel of similarity, but much of what you do, day to day, is not your personality, even though you may call it that. Instead, your so-called personality is a collection of habits formed out of experiences as a defence mechanism for coping with day to day life. Your imagined personality can hold you back in life because it defines what you will do and what you are unwilling or incapable of doing. A woman may feel she cannot be an effective public speaker because she has been shy all her life. This is simply not true, she merely needs to learn what makes an effective public speaker and adopt those mannerisms herself.

To be truly effective in terms of positive thinking you must accept the notion, that whatever age you are, you are not a fixed concept. You can be what you want to be. OFten we want to do things that seem at odds with what we feel comfortable with. We tell ourselves that we could never go skydiving or such like. These contrary desires are so important. You should take hold of them and make them reality. They are your mind's way of trying to increase its exposure to new things, to break out of the prison you call personality.

Today, pick one thing that you have never done but have always been curious about. Make a list of a months worth of activities that you feel you may not be capable of. Run a marathon, join the local drama club, spend a whole day outdoors without checking in with the office. You will be amazed at how empowered you feel - and it will give you further motivation to push back your so called identity.

2) Learn how to motivate yourself.

Many of us feel that we are at the whim of the day. On a good day we will do well, and on a bad day we will be unmotivated, will procrastinate and achieve little. You must accept the concept that your day is yours to control, you are at the whim of circumstance only in so much as you choose to respond to circumstance. Planning ahead, can provide security through contingency plans to deal with the so called unexpected. For those issues that keep coming up, see if there is a way to solve them permanently. Once you have reduced circumstance as much as possible you must then identify the next largest area of de motivation.

For many of us, particularly those new to self improvement, our emotions are what control our day. Or rather, our lack of ability to direct our own feelings. Motivation comes from knowing we have a task that will challenge us, is not insurmountable, and will provide a valuable outcome. By ensuring all of your major tasks fit into these categories you will help to unleash the motivation found within your daily activities.

Secondly, arrange your office in such a way as to cut down on distractions. Have a ready supply of water nearby, fresh pens and pencils and paper. Ensure that there as few distractions as possible. Once you have done this, you can focus on ways to improve your own mood - perhaps have a play list of your favourite uplifting songs. Have a to do list of your day's tasks, that are prioritised, and tick them off as you progress though them. Having a written record of your completions is a great way to build confidence in being able to finish tasks.

Once you can plan work for the day ahead and use the power of those tasks to motivate yourself you will feel much more in control in your work environment. This extra security will help build your self confidence and help you to see things more positively.

Make a list of tasks today and see how you can drive your motivation.

3) Be confident of who you are becoming.

Sometimes people may ,knowingly or unknowingly, put you down. They may make you feel self conscious about your spelling, your weight or your lack of confidence. At the time these insult may sting and cause deep pain and ruin your day or maybe even longer. They lower your perception of your own self worth and cause a negative spiral that sabotages any positive thinking. Rather than focus on why the other person did what they did, I would like you not to be a victim and to focus on something else. Being a victim can never ever create a positive outcome. It embodies feelings of helplessness and being subject to the whims of others. If there is any way that you can avoid feelings of victim hood and use the criticism in a positive way you should.

You are probably thinking - thats easy to say - but what is positive about being called 'insert insult'. I think that you should use such criticism as fuel, fuel to prove the other person wrong - to understand that who you are today doesn't have to be who you are tomorrow, or next week or next year.

If you yourself are unhappy with what they criticised, then decide if now is the time to do something about it, and to dwarf the critical negative person with the strength of your own personal power. People who criticise often love to feel that you will always be whatever be afflicted by whatever problem they perceive or 'want to perceive'. If you can change it shows to yourself and to the world that you can become whatever you want to be. Don't let others or yourself define you a static unchanging being who will always be burdened with the same afflictions.

4) Create the future - commit to yourself.

Imagine its a month from now. You have worked on the three ideas above and are seeing results. Now that you are learning to tackle you own problems, can motivate yourself to an extent and can push your own boundaries - its time to create your own future. A future that is so far from where you were a month ago, or even today, that to contemplate it before would have been unthinkable. Perhaps you would like to be a model, lose weight, or greatly increase your income. Maybe you want to walk the stage of some famous theatre, or begin an acting career. Look twenty years in the future, and decide where you would like to be, regardless of feasibility, or outrageousness. Then fix this vision into concrete statements, such as I will weight twenty pounds less, or I will drive an Aston Martin.

Now take these facts and visualise in your mind a scene, which illustrates all of these things. Imagine your future self in the scene, looking radiant and happy. Now make the image bigger, and the colours brighter, smile to yourself, and press your thumb and forefinger together. Do this visualisation technique every day, as many times as you remember to. Always press together your thumb and finger as you smile and imagine yourself stepping into the image and it coming to life. By doing this, we are anchoring your desire for the future to a physical action. From this point on, whenever you feel insecure or demotivated, press your thumb and forefinger together and you will get a surge of energy and happiness.

The next step is to plan out how you will achieve you goals over the coming months and weeks and years. Take a look at when you want to achieve your goal and then step backwards adding key points that will mark your progress. These point should contain sub goals that will help bring your major goal to life.

If you follow these four simple steps, and repeat them day in day out, for a month, you will rapidly begin to see changes in your life. When I did these things myself several years ago, I began to see changes in my life that were for the better. Bizarrely, I did not associate these positive changes with the daily actions I was taking. Looking back, it was the daily repetition of the above tasks that really helped turn my life around.

If you can master these techniques for positive thinking then you will have gone a long way to creating the life that your want !

How To Choose An Audio-Video Installer To Design And Install Your Home Theater Room Or System

!±8± How To Choose An Audio-Video Installer To Design And Install Your Home Theater Room Or System

Here Are a Few Questions To Ask A Home Theater Company When Speaking To Them On The Phone

First of all, take the time to interview several home theater designers & installers before choosing one to work with. As you talk with them, be sure to listen carefully & take notes as they answer. Remember its either find out now...or suffer the consequences of finding out later.

1) Now this is important: Do they have an "unrestricted" state license to do low voltage work...or are they wiring & installing home theatre rooms without the proper state license?. (You would be surprised how many electricians & security alarm installers say they are certified. Remember an unrestricted electrical license does not authorize the installation of low voltage wiring. It is not the same as an unrestricted low voltage license. The same goes for a burglar alarm license...this is a "restricted" low voltage license limiting them to burglar alarms only!) Do not not to settle for anything less than state licensed for "unrestricted" low voltage work.

2)Lets talk about insurance. What kind of insurance do they carry? What happens if they drop your ,000 Sony plasma Television? ) Are they insured with general liability insurance for all of their workers...as well as workman's comp? (Many companies use subcontractors that may or may not be licensed) Ask to see a current proof of insurance during the interview process! Many companies give low prices to win your business, now you know how they can do that! Is the risk worth saving a few dollars to you?

3) Do they offer you a list of references to check? Or do you have to ask again and again? Don't settle for phone references either. Friends and family can pose as phony references. You would be surprised how many customers are proud to show you their new theater rooms, all you have to do is just ask!

4) Do they have a website for you to check out their company, look at testimonials , samples of the work they do and a place to educate yourself about home theater?

5) What about financing? Is special financing available, like 6 months same as cash for example? Or do they want all of the money upfront?

6) Will they install some of your equipment that you have purchased on your own? Or do they only equipment they supply?

7) Are you a "Do it Yourself" kind of person? Will they work with you on partial jobs like prewiring your theater room only? Or just hanging your plasma and setting up your personal surround sound system?

8) Will they do small jobs? For example will they offer to hang an LCD over the fireplace or optimize your existing 7.1 surround sound system?

9) Will they offer you a FREE onsite home theater consultation...or will they CHARGE you for the privilege to show them what they can do for you? Don't be surprised if they charge a 0.00 or more for giving them the opportunity to earn your business.

10) Do they have a home theatre showroom that you can come and play with all of the latest home theater equipment yourself? Can you bring your favorite action movies to hear your favorite sound effects on the different surround sound systems they have on site? Can you bring your favorite CD's and listen to the songs & compare them with several speaker packages so you can hear the difference?

11) While you are there do you feel comfortable talking to the consultants or do you feel sales pressure to spend more than you have in mind? Was your presentation informative and helpful , or was it a thinly veiled sales pitch?

12) Beware of sleazy sales tactics. Are they willing to work within your budget...or are they pushing you to spend more than you feel comfortable with?
One way to find out is while checking their references. Don't be afraid to ask about the sales process, and sales pressure. If they didn't like it they will be sure to tell you!

Does it take time to do get answers to these questions upfront?

Most certainly, yes.

But in the end you will agree it was time worth spent.
